Comments: Well I'm finally making the time to comment.  I did see this site last year (passed on to me by a co-worker who has relatives on Isle Madame).  It was so cool to see all the houses and the scenery.  I still marvel at the beauty of our island.  Imagine - that's where I grew up!!!  In West Arichat where my dad (Adolphe) and dear Aunt (Genelle) still live as well as 3 brothers; 1 brother in D'Escouse; my sister in Petit de Grat.  We have a cottage in Port Royal so would love to see Janvrin's Island and Port Royal included.  We vist often and our kids love it down there.  Things that I took for grant it (fishing, swimming, walking the beach, combing the woods) they can't get enough off.  Great job of bringing back fond memories.  Keep it up!!!

Comments: I understand there was a girls school in Arichat sometime between 1865 and 1875.  I believe it was called 'Congregation de Notre Dame'.  I would like to visit this area if the school is still in existance as I will be visiting Baddeck in June.  Can you give me any information about the history of this school?
Thank you,
Greta

Comments: I love this site so much. My ancestors Robert and Agnes Bourque lived there in the early 1900's. He ran a store which I believe might be the location of Flat Calm. Thanks for the wonderful pictures which gives me a feel for where my ancestors came from What well kept homes.

Comments: Hi Everyone!
On a Cemetery researching trip Truro  to Isle Madame, back in 2002, we experienced car trouble.A LeBlanc family on the way to a fishing trip immediately stopped and helped, not knowing who these strangers were. It was a very warm feeling to know people still care and help others. They would not give up and leave until they knew we were up and running. Thank you again! We have never frotgotten this.We live in Wolfville near Grand Pre ,now. A beautiful  Acadian area. So if anyone locals visit this area, send us an e-mail and we will get together for a tea.

Subject: Isle Madame.

My name is Jolene and I live in Halifax. Peter and Bernice MacDonald (deceased) are my grandparents. When my father was a year old my grandfather was driving through Poulamon and happened upon this house (#66), and bought it for $600, to use as their summer home. They were from Sydney River. During my childhood every summer was spent there, and I fell in love with the entire island. We would go in my Poppa's boat and have picnics on the islands, go clam digging and skipping stones on the shore behind our house. I learned to swim at Big Beach. Since their deaths my uncle, Richard MacDonald, had been in charge of the care taking for it. Unfortunately it has seen better days. My great aunts are Olive Dawson, Eunice Spears and Lorraine Leblance (grandmother's sisters) and they own houses #150, 151 on the Lower Road in Poulamon. They spend their summers there still. On my mother's side I am also connected to the island, by the Lebruns (Flat Clam Restraunt in D'Escousse), and a house on the Lower Road in Arichat (not listed). Although I don't know much about the Lebruns. The pictures are fantastic. It is just like driving through, starting with the bridge (I can hear it under the tires now). My sister and I made a lot of friends on this island, whom we still keep in contact with. One of my favorite things about the people there, is how they all wave at you, driving by, or give a little honk. Something never heard of here in the city, we always thought it was so nice.  When we were younger, friends of ours from here in Halifax had grandparents (Ranson), who lived practically across the street from our place. Then, as we got older we started meeting more people who had homes to go to down there, (Louisdale, D'Escousse, Javrin's Island) and the whole lot of us would get together. It was fantastic, and something I will never forget. My father still visits, but I have not had the chance to in a few years. I wanted to tell you how much this site means to me, and thankyou for it. I found it by accident and nearly fell off the chair when I saw it all. Thank you again for doing this, I can't wait to share it with my dad, he will flip!

Sincerely
Jolene MacDonald

Comments: OH MY... WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WEBSITE. I SAW PICTURES OF BOTH SETS OF GRANDPARENTS HOMES IN CAPE BRETON. MY GRANDPARENTS WERE ALEX AND DELVINA THERIAULT, WHO LIVED ON WHAT USED TO BE KNOWN AS THE HIGH ROAD IN AIRCHAT, AND THE OLD BRITTEN HOMESTEAD, OWNED BY JAMES AND CLARA JANE BRITTEN (PHOTO # 261), IN POIRIERVILLE. I SPENT MANY DAYS IN THIS HOUSE OVER 30 YEARS AGO. MADE ME HOMESICK AS MOM SAID THE OLD HOUSE WAS TORN DOWN SOME TIME AGO.

Comments: What a lovely site, it is just like going "home".  I was born in Arichat hospital, but lived in D'Escousse until I was almost 10, then moved to Ontario in 1975. I attened North Isle Madame Elementary School until grade 3.  My father owned a business in Port Hawksbury in the 70's.  I have wonderful memories as a child of growing up in a truly beautiful town.  I had so much fun picking berries, swimming at the shore, catching minnows, going in the woods... I remember the weekly trips to go grocery shopping at the IGA in Arichat and the trips to Port Hawksbury.  Although Ontario is beautiful too and I am settled here with my four children now, a huge piece of my heart is in Isle madame and it will be there forever.  I have been back a few times, in 1980, 1988 and 2001.  I plan to go back maybe next summer and bring my four kids.  I remember our beautiful churh, St. Hyachinte's as well, where I was baptized, and made my first communion and confirmation.  Although I have lost touch with everyone I knew there and went to school with, I still think of them now and then.  Most of my family has moved on as well, but I will still come back now and then.  Thanks again for such a nice site to show my kids and tell my little story, and hopefully some of my old school friends will remember me and drop me a line or two in an email and say hello and tell me what they have been up to for the past 30 years!!

Thank You

Comments: Hello again,

I did not see the photo gallery the previous times I've visited the site.  A lady I know out this way (b.c.) asked if it was St. John's Anglican church was the one built by my family.  Actually, it was St. George's Chapel in Cape La Ronde (Mauger Rd.) that Was built by my uncle George Mauger (the older George - now deceased ... not to be confused with my 1st cousin George Mauger... still very much alive... who lives in at the Cape still) and John Mauger who was my grandfather.  My father "Johnny Mauger" died in 1998.

The history and heritage we share is wonderful... I tell the stories of 'back home' all the time.  My son and I had a blast back home this Summer and look forward to another Summer there in 2007.

Comments: On a whim decided to Google Isle Madame and how nice it was to find this site!  Anlthough I am back and forth to Petit de Grat every couple of months, it is nice to find something to show friends here and put our beautiful community on the map!

I grew up in Alderney Point and it will always be home.  I now live in Saint John, NB and have been here for more than 10 years now.  If any of you are in the area, please do send along an e-mail so you can drop by for supper :)

Keep up the great work!
